The APAI team at Virta is the heartbeat of our technological innovation. We develop and implement cutting-edge AI solutions to personalize patient care, enhance treatment efficacy, and streamline the patient experience. By leveraging unique data (clinical & app usage), machine learning, generative AI, predictive modeling, experimentation, and analytics, we create tools that not only support our clinicians in delivering top-notch care but also empower our patients in their journey to reverse their metabolic conditions.

As an APAI Intern, you'll contribute to projects that directly impact our mission of reversing diabetes in 100 million people. You will work hands-on with developing AI models, analyzing patient data to uncover insights, and assisting in the deployment of AI-driven tools that improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
• Data Analysis and Model Development: Participate in the collection, cleaning, and analysis of patient data. Assist in building and refining machine learning models to predict patient outcomes and personalize treatment plans.
• Collaborative Project Contribution: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, clinical, and product departments, to integrate AI solutions into Virta's platform. Provide insights from data analysis to inform decision-making across teams.
• Innovative Solution Exploration: Research and propose new AI techniques and tools that could enhance patient care and outcomes. Stay abreast of the latest developments in AI, machine learning, and healthcare technology.
• Performance Monitoring: Assist in monitoring the performance of deployed AI models, identifying areas for improvement, and suggesting enhancements based on patient feedback and data analysis.
• Effective Communication:: Communicate AI processes and models clearly and concisely for both technical and non-technical team members through documentation & discussion. Prepare presentations and related materials on project progress and findings to share with the team and stakeholders.

Qualifications
• A student currently pursuing a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in computer science principles, algorithms, and data structures.
• Familiarity with Python, machine learning techniques, and statistical analysis.
• Strong analytical skills with a talent for exploring and understanding datasets. Ability to spot trends and approach challenges with creative problem-solving.
• Openness to feedback and a strong desire to learn new technologies and methodologies. Ability to adapt quickly to changing project needs and new advancements in AI and healthcare technology.
• Genuine interest in healthcare, particularly in using technology to improve patient outcomes. Motivated by the mission to reverse diabetes and improve metabolic health through innovation.

As part of your duties at Virta, you may come in contact with sensitive patient information that is governed by HIPAA. Throughout your career at Virta, you will be expected to follow Virta's security and privacy procedures to ensure our patients' information remains strictly confidential. Security and privacy training will be provided.
