Intel Incubation and Disruptive Innovation group is defining the state of the art in computer vision and AI, developing products for various industrial applications for workflow automation and productivity improvement.

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Research Intern to join our team at Incubation and Disruptive Innovation (IDI). The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing state-of-the-art research in machine learning and generative AI, collaborate with the IDI engineering team contributing original research in advancing generative AI technologies and its applications in vertical industries to enable workflow automation.

As a Research Intern in our organization, you will have the unique opportunity to learn and enhance your deep learning and AI systems skills. The candidate is expected to have strong research ability, problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Perform state of the art research in machine learning and AI to advance generative AI technologies in specific vertical industries.
• Apply generative AI technologies to enable workflow automation.
• Design and implement advanced AI techniques to solve real-world problems.
• Conduct literature review and evaluate state of the art methods in the field.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are required to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience would be obtained through a combination of prior education level classes, and current level school classes, projects, research, and relevant previous job and/or internship experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
• The candidate must be pursuing a Master's degree or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Computer Engineering or in relevant technical field.
• 1+ years' experience in below areas:
o Artificial Intelligence /Machine Learning
o Natural language processing techniques and generative large language models with strong deep learning fundamentals.
o Python programming, and experience with commonly used AI frameworks and scientific libraries.

What you'll do
Ground Infrastructure is responsible for the infrastructure that provides transport network, data (processing) centers and the networks within, access underlay infrastructure, and general shared services which are hosted in the data centers required to connect a subscriber to the internet.

Work we do includes:
• Configure and manage Software Defined Networks (SDN).
• Maintain On-premises, Cloud, Infrastructure, and orchestration platforms for subscribers’ connectivity.
• Design and implement new core node architecture across the globes as we grow.
• Integrate and test with End-to-End systems to make sure basic functionalities working as expected.
• Implement live debugging and on-demand data visualizations as needed.

The day-to-day


We are hiring a group of interns to be a part of a collaborative team of engineers at Viasat within the Ground Infrastructure team. Examples of day to day tasks include:
• Understanding various networking elements in our core nodes.
• Identify control/data path software performance bottlenecks within our platforms.
• Work on various AWS cloud platforms to implement various services.
• Design and implement web application to monitor and troubleshoot our Software Defined Networks.
• Integrate with Application team to make sure End to End system working with basic functionalities.
• Build some inhouse tools to investigate and debugs in the system.
• Automating deployments and configuration of tools and services.
• Collect system level metrics and data for network visualization.

What you'll need
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• Experience complex scripting in Python and Bash.
• Experience automating configuration and tasks for highly scaled linux systems and application deployments.
• Understanding of basic Linux systems management.
• An understanding of RESTful web services, JSON, YML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with Ansible, Salt or Chef.
• A working knowledge of at least one high level OO language: Java, Ruby, C++, Objective C, Scala, Go, etc.
• Ability to commit to a 10-12 week summer internship starting in June 2024.

What will help you on the job
• Knowledge of common design patterns and OO principles.
• Familiarity with pipeline deployment tools such as Jenkins, GoCD or Bamboo.
• Basic knowledge on Networking is a plus.
• Ability to work both autonomously and with a team.

Salary range
$21 - $66 / hourly

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, Colorado, New York, Washington, California: $63,000.00-$166,000.00
*Salary range dependent on a number of factors including location and experience

Working Model
This role is available as a fully home-based and generally would require you to attend Intel sites only occasionally based on business need. This role may also be available as our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site.In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
