The Challenge Ahead includes building our new cross-game, cross-platform digital economy platform. This large-scale, always-on collection of Java/Kotlin and GO-based services will power the virtual-economies of EA’s network of games, experienced by tens of millions of monthly active users. You will build platform capabilities handling several hundred-thousand requests per second, driving the player engagement of many of the industry's most popular titles. You will build server-side systems that deliver new functionality within the larger Digital Platform and work on regular improvements to the systems to keep them at top-notch performance.

As a Software Engineer II, you will report to the Sr. Engineering Manager. You will lead the software design and architecture process of our services, while optimizing performance and scalability. You will work with product managers to develop new features, supporting EA's many games and reducing technical debt associated with legacy systems through innovation and automation.

Responsibilities:
• Roughly 75% hands on coding
• Create and work on large scale distributed backend services creating new features and updating existing capabilities
• Resolve defects during QA testing, preproduction, production and from the live environment
• Work with multiple game studios on multiple different platforms who use the services and features you create to complete user facing features
• Architect and design large portions of the software from features to entire applications
• Grow and guide other engineers
• Occasional off-hours support for development needs and support of the live environment helping to ensure our consumer experience is always world class

Qualifications:
• 3+ years experience developing software (preferably in Go/Kotlin/Java)
• 1+ years experience working on online services at Internet consumer scale
• Experience working on high traffic services and highly scalable systems
• Experience working with cloud technologies to build SaaS applications
• Use of technologies such as Redis, Kafka, NoSQL systems in production systems and other OSS tech
• Superb communication skills: Demonstrated ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong understanding of the Software design/architecture process
• Superb ability to take high level direction and know how to execute against it
• Strong understanding of DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and Agile development
• Experience developing, maintaining, and innovating large scale distributed applications

Bonus:
• Experience with one or more scripting languages
• Experience with Maven/Gradle
• Experience with Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA
• Experience with load testing and system analysis
• Experience with other languages such as C++ or C#
• Some experience leading or guiding engineers
• Experience working with remote teams
• Domain experience in social platforms

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the range and benefits for your specific location.

Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

º $122,300 - $170,600 USD Annually
• New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
º $104,000 - $170,600 USD Annually
• Jersey City, NJ :
º $137,300 - $170,600 USD Annually
• Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
º $111,800 - $151,800 USD Annually
• Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
º $104,000 - $174,700 USD Annually
• British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):
º $96,400 - $133,900 CAN Annually

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity. For British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
