I am a graduate student at Stony Brook University majoring in Computer Science, concentration Data Science.
I have completed a Bachelor’s in Information Technology from St. Francis Institute of Technology, affiliated to Mumbai University where I was exposed to many subjects. My deep interest in computers always helped me to score well in all the semesters and pass without any gaps and backlogs. The idea of excelling in the classroom motivated me to take up multiple projects in the undergraduate program so that I can enhance my technical appetite and get practical exposure of my subjects. I worked on ‘Implementation of Private cloud using Eucalyptus or Open stake’ in the course of Cloud Computing. I also worked on ‘Implementation of large data application on Movie Recommendation system using Neo4j’ in the course of Big Data. I also prepared a fully functional website using Bootstrap and HTML 5 for sports enthusiasts featuring articles collected from different websites on different categories of sports. The site also had Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Google analytics which could be converted into a commercial website to earn profits.
In my final year project, I worked on Legends of the golden sparrow (LOGS), a fully immersive 3D game built using Unity 3D game engine. It is a setup to help students learn history in a more effective manner by efficiently dealing with perfunctory dates and monotonous names of kings/leaders which never excites any student. The game was built not just for students from third grade to tenth grade but also for other history enthusiasts. Three of the important historical events of India were highlighted into three different modules. There is a quiz after every module that would enable the child to evaluate how much they were able to grasp from the gameplay. My role was to create a wireframe (Unity 3D AI Part) for the complete movement of the characters inside the game environment. I acquired the latest technical knowledge about computer graphics and animations as many of the animations were done on C# on MonoDevelop Unity.
After my bachelor’s, I started working as a Software Engineer in Capgemini from Sep 2017. I was trained in dot Net Framework with all its technologies for three months. Here I built a fully functional WebApp (Online Taxi Booking system) with data storage (MS SQL Server). I also got hands-on experience on the dot Net framework, react.js, VSTS, Azure Portal applications. I am up to date with the latest technology as I am currently undergoing node JS and Angular JS training. I also took on the job training on Automation scripting languages and was certified (Foundation Level Certificate) by Capgemini as well. I got expertise in Automation Scripting languages of R-Programming, Perl, Python, PowerShell as well as Automation Tools of UI Path during the training. While working on one of the projects, I learned a lot about how an app must be deployed and maintained, it’s in-depth functioning, how to optimize an app, and many such unknown things which were not covered in the undergraduate curriculum. I always believed in exploring the topics to their depth. Hence, I read deeply about programming languages on tutorialspoint.com, participated in group forums like stackoverflow.com, and took online challenges on codechef.com and hackerrank.com websites.
I gave equal attention to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. I got the runner-up prize in ‘Tech Quiz’ and ‘Let’s Hunt’ competitions at Technical Fest 2015. I also participated in debugging at Technical Fest 2013, National Network Security Challenge conducted by E-Cell IIT Kanpur in 2016, and Android Application Design by IIT Bombay in 2016. Besides this, I have been an integral part of the college cricket team which went on to the quarter-finals of the National Level tournament conducted by MIT Pune in 2016-2017. I am a member of the Emergency Reaction Team (ERT) in Capgemini, trained to handle the fire extinguisher, medical kit, and mild CPR. I have also completed many technical trainings from the Capgemini knowledge portal and ranked 562 out of approximately 20000 participants in the technical coding challenge held in Sep 2018.
After gaining experience of a decade, I want to lead a team of like-minded people to identify a unique problem and work on to implement a solution that would be beneficial to the society by using the knowledge gained during the Master’s program. With an urge to know more about the field of programming and develop all the necessary skills that are required to be successful in the domain, I am pursuing a master’s degree in computer science from Stony Brook University and would like to be a valuable asset to the team as a full-time software developer.
Till now I have undertaken core computing courses like Operating Systems, Analysis of Algorithms, Compiler Design, and Theory of Databases. I have also taken Data Science driven courses to widen my range of skills like Fundamentals of Data Science, Visualization, Probability, and Statistics for Data Science. As a part of the advanced project, I built a fully functional Android App for tracking the global impact of COVID-19 using Android Studio (Java) and D3 for creating maps. Currently, I am working under a professor to create a website that will help students to practice python concepts from a large pool of MCQs. This website is being built using Python and JavaScript.
