Overview
Azure Files team is looking for a talented and highly motivated Software Engineer to design and develop the next generation of the Azure file storage stack. We are building Microsoft’s cloud storage solution - Azure Storage, which is a massively scalable, highly distributed, ubiquitously accessible storage system, designed to scale out and serve the entire world, see Azure Storage paper. Azure Files is the foundational file system and file sharing service built in Azure Storage, supporting industry-standard Server Message Block (SMB)/Common Internet File System (CIFS), Network File System (NFS) and Represenational State Transfer (REST) protocols, that is fully compatible with on-premises file servers, both Windows and Linux-based, can scale up to exabytes of storage, and provide world-class reliability, performance, and security. As a Software Engineer in the Azure Files Storage team, you will develop features at the core storage and the protocol layers of the service, including architectural changes to significantly increase scalability and performance of the file system. You will have the opportunity to explore distributed system design , file protocols (NFS, SMB), and help solve the performance and scale requirements of the most demanding workloads, used by the most impactful companies and services. You will have opportunity to make high-impact changes daily as you build a hyper-scale file storage system that powers the world.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
• OR related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,
• OR Python
• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience.
• Storage, Linux Network and NFS protocols knowledge.
• Experience in development of cloud services.
• Experiences in scalable system software and/or Services.
• Experiences (school or work projects) with concepts of multi-threaded, asynchronous patterns, locks to synchronize access to state.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $76,400 - $151,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $100,300 - $165,400 per year.
